Vivanta Sikkim, a luxurious retreat for travellers at Pakyong

GANGTOK,: Tourism suffered a global meltdown in these two years of Covid pandemic. Sikkim is no exception, particularly when its entire economy is driven by lakhs of tourists visiting the Himalayan State annually. But as the world adapts to a new normal, tourism is also returning with resilience and innovative attractions for the travellers.

One such courageous addition to Sikkim Tourism in this turbulent period is Vivanta Sikkim, a 5-star luxury hotel at Pakyong. Located just 7.5 km away from the State’s lone airport, the IHCL-operated hotel comfortably adds value to the high-end tourism mantra of the State.
Strengthening the Sikkimese ethos and participation is local ownership through Skipping Stones Pvt Ltd which owns the Vivanta Sikkim Pakyong hotel spread over its land of 3.5 acre. The 50-room hotel is operated by Indian Hotels Company (IHCL), a reputed national hospitality company which also operates the famed Taj Group of Hotels.

We are targeting high end tourists and we are optimistic of getting good business while also adding value to Sikkim Tourism. A new luxurious stay for tourists has come up at Pakyong, the airport town of Sikkim and about 25 km away from Gangtok.
Vivanta Sikkim, operated by the Indian Hotels Company (IHCL), started welcoming its guests from November 30. The 50-room stylishly designed hotel offers a comfortable retreat for tourists looking to spend some rejuvenating days in Sikkim.
Shrada Sharma, a Gangtokian and managing director of Skipping Stones Pvt Ltd which owns the plush hotel, spoke with Swatantra Aawaj. She shares about the Vivanta Sikkim Pakyong adding value to the high-end tourism push of Sikkim, the local ownership for sustainable tourism, and the direct & indirect benefits the hospitality property ushers in for the locals.
Sandeep Das, hotel manager, Vivanta Sikkim Pakyong, adds that Sikkim is an unexplored destination for high-end tourists and how IHCL, which also runs the Taj Group of Hotels, plans to attract such clientele to Sikkim through Vivanta Sikkim Pakyong.

Indian Hotels inaugurates Vivanta Sikkim

With this, Indian Hotels will have eight hotels in North East India Indian Hotels Company (IHCL), which owns and manages the Taj brand of hotels, has opened its first Vivanta property at Pakyong in Vivanta Sikkim.

The 50-room Vivanta Sikkim, Pakyong is located at a driving distance from the State’s airport at Pakyong – a popular tourist town – and the capital city of Gangtok, the company said in a release.

The hotel will have an all day diner called Mynt, that will serve Sikkimese specialties; while Wink, the lounge bar, offers cocktails and local brews. It will also have over 300 square metres of indoor banqueting spaces and open air lawns.

With the addition of this hotel, IHCL will have eight hotels in North East India that include four properties under-development.

Outlook: IHCL inks mgmt contract with Skipping Stones for 50-room Vivanta hotel in Gangtok

Mumbai, Dec 26 (PTI) Hospitality major Indian Hotels Company (IHCL) on Thursday announced the signing of a management contract with Skipping Stones for a 50-room Vivanta hotel in Gangtok, Sikkim, according to an official release.
With this, the group will have its second property in the state.

Taj Guras Kutir, Gangtok, was the first hotel in Sikkim signed by IHCL, which is currently under development.

“Sikkim is very famous for its ecotourism – trekking, mountaineering, river rafting and other nature oriented offerings. The signing of IHCL”s second hotel in Gangtok demonstrates our commitment to the region, taking our tally to 11 hotels across our brandscape,” IHCL Executive Vice President – Real Estate and Development Suma Venkatesh said.

The hotel, spread over 3.5 acres, is located at Gangtok”s neighbouring town Pakyong and is a short drive from the new airport.

It is a brownfield project which is slated to open in mid-2020.

Commenting on the partnership, Skipping Stones Director Sradha Sharma said, “We are delighted to partner with IHCL. We will be introducing the Vivanta brand to Sikkim with this hotel.”

IHCL has 11 hotels in the north east region, West Bengal and Bhutan, including five under development.

The company is aiming at a Vivanta in every state capital with the brandscape expected to touch 25 hotels by 2022. PTI SM MKJ
